“Reminiscences of Barra: A Visual Journey” Archives and Arts Exhibition

The winds of time have brought us to today, as the ship of history sails through the waves. The tumultuous waves of the Age of Discovery have finally turned into a pool of clear water on the shore of Barra district. This secluded spot, born with the tides and currents of the sea, has become the most intact area of maritime history, culture, and industrial buildings in Macao, still exuding the remnants of a port city.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau has carefully combed through the documentary materials, displaying the century-long changes of the Barra district, showing the context of architectural conservation, community development, and cultural promotion. It presents a new urban public vision that is culturally distinctive and sustainable.

MGM, together with the Macao Cultural Development Promotion Association, has collected artistic creations that have focused on the Barra district in recent years. It exhibits 35 watercolor paintings and Chinese paintings by LAI IENG, LIO MAN CHEONG, LOK HEI, DIXON LEI, TAM CHEK WUN, CHANG KUOK MENG, IP SON HOU, LAM CHI IAN, MAK LEI, KONG CHANG CHONG, UN MENG, KUAN WAI SANG, TANG IO PONG, IM HOK LON, IONG CHI CHIO and LEONG VAI I, as well as 35 works by photographers CHAN HIN IO, LOU KAM IENG, TONG KA and TANG VAI IN. It reproduces the unique historical culture and landscape atmosphere of the Barra district area and its surrounding mountains and seas, reflecting the origin and flourishing of public culture and artistic trends in this place.
