For celebrating both the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Macao SAR.MGM is pleased to acquisition of two iconic gunpowder artworks by a well-known Chinese contemporary artist Cai Guo-Qiang for its Chairman’s Collection. Entitled Alchemist and Study for Uffizi: A Bouquet of Flowers No.1, the two magnum opuses from the Fireworks Director of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China will be on permanent display at MGM COTAI for the appreciation of both locals and inbound visitors, unleashing the extraordinary charm and special artistic energy of gunpowder art.
The captivating pyrotechnic show in the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China is a feat of Guo-Qiang’s perpetuity to patriotism and family. As depicted in the special screening of documentary Sky Ladder: The Art of Cai Guo-Qiang today at MGM Theater, it is the element of hometown and the miracle power of family that has been accompanying with Guo-Qiang to realize his artistic dream for almost two decades.
Following the screening, Cai Guo-Qiang started a dialogue with 600 locals and youths on the prospect of art in Macau, he shared his insight on the unlimited possibilities in future. Alchemist and A Bouquet of Flowers No. 1, which are permanently exhibited in MGM’s public space, have been exposed to more than 600,000 visitors worldwide.
