Born in Taiwan, Hung Yi was originally a successful restaurateur and started his professional artistic career since 2002. Inspired by Taiwanese culture and daily observations, he started making graphic art at the beginning, and later engaged in public installation. Known for a hybrid, bright and playful style, his work consists of Pop art hues, cartoonish figures and traditional Oriental motifs, which evokes primitive art and traditional ornamentation while referencing contemporary visual cultures. His sculptures become well-known throughout East Asia.
