Ink has played a pivotal role in Chinese history and culture, and it remains as relevant today as it did over 5,000 years ago. 2019, Macao Special Administrative Region Government launched a mega international arts and cultural event “Art Macao”. MGM invited contemporary artists Ma Wen and Yang Yongliang to presents a modern artistic ink experience, Hua Yuan.
Yang harnesses technology and videography to showcase the transformation of Chinese ink via a digital landscape painting, Journey to the Dark II. A Metamorphosis: No End to End, by Jennifer Wen Ma, takes ink to a subliminal level. Meanwhile. The Hua Yuan Exhibition grand finale features Paradise Interrupted, a captivating one-act installation opera that blends together the mysticality of 600-year-old Kun opera and the contemporariness of Western opera. Also integrates different levels of art forms such as visual installation and theater art together innovatively but smoothly and finally sublimates the ink art to a new level than ever before. Both artists embrace a modern scientific spirit to reinterpret traditional aesthetics and create their masterpieces that will take you through various realms of artistry. Through Hua Yuan, to present the essence of Chinese culture and art is preserved and progressed, allowing you to experience the beauty of ink and wonder at its possibilities.
