Collected Letters is a large-scale art installation created by the influential Chinese contemporary artist Liu Jianhua for the MGM Chairman's Collection. This piece reflects Liu's exploration and Innovation of Jingdezhen ceramic art.
Porcelain is one of China's greatest inventions, and Jingdezhen, with its rich history of porcelain production, rightfully earns the title of "Porcelain Capital." The ceramics produced here are celebrated for their exquisite craftsmanship and have historically been exported via the overland "Silk Road" and maritime “Ceramic Road," serving as vital conduits for cultural exchange between China and the world. These fine ceramics have not only facilitated trade but have also significantly contributed to the development of global civilization.
Embodying Jingdezhen’s spirit of connecting East and West, Liu Jianhua collaborated with twenty ceramic artists from Jingdezhen over five months to create this monumental installation, which comprises three thousand porcelain pieces, weighing over one ton. The work presents a diverse collection of Chinese characters and English letters. Its innovative suspended display method infuses traditional ceramic art with contemporary aesthetic, highlighting the rich possibilities of ceramics while beautifully illustrating the fusion of Eastern and Western cultures, emphasizing the infinite potential and timeless value of ceramic art.
