MGM proudly presents a performance by the world-renowned conductor-composer and UNESCO Global Goodwill Ambassador, Tan Dun. He brings to life The Vanishing Mogao Caves, a concert born from his deep creative exploration. This performance is a key extension of the annual exhibition Silk Roads Beyond Borders at the POLY MGM Museum, echoing the exhibition's themes and enriching its multidimensional showcase of Silk Road culture.
The Vanishing Mogao Caves revives ancient instruments — such as the phoenix-headed Konghou, the five-string pipa, and the bili — once seen only in the murals of the Dunhuang caves. Drawing inspiration from the cultural elements featured in the exhibition, Maestro Tan Dun uniquely blends ancient music restoration with contemporary expression. These resurrected instruments will be played live on stage, accompanied by ancient dance, vocal chanting, and a rich tapestry of artistic forms. Together, they weave a living, breathing mural of Dunhuang — allowing the audience to experience the eternal echoes of the Library Cave, resonating deep within the soul across a thousand years.
