In active response to the nation’s development strategy, MGM once again hosted the “Sharing Session on National People's Congress and National Political Consultative Conference”, encouraging team members and young people to gain deeper insights into the spirit of the of the National People's Congress (NPC) and National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), collectively known as the “Two Sessions”. The initiative aims to help participants better grasp the direction of national development and deepen their understanding of the country’s overall development landscape.
Held at the ballroom of MGM Cotai, the
sharing session opened with remarks by Pansy Ho, Chairperson
and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited. Distinguished
keynote speakers included Chui Sai Peng, Member of the NPC and Member of the
Legislative Assembly of Macau; Ho Sut Heng, Member of the NPC
and Chairman of the
Supervisory Board of the Macao Federation of Trade Unions; and Wong Kit
Cheng, Member
of the National Committee of the CPPCC and
Member of
the
Legislative Assembly of Macao SAR.
The event drew nearly 400 MGM team members,
students
and professors
from several local higher education institutions, as well as members of the
General Association of Macau Beijing Organization. It was also
livestreamed to MGM’s back-of-house areas, engaging over 4,000 participants both online and offline.
Other guests attending the event included Sun
Yaohua, Director of the Economic Affairs Department of the
Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR; Kenneth
Feng, Chief Executive
Officer and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited; Han Tian, Chief Operating
Officer of MGM China Holdings Limited; Antonio Menano, Chief Legal Officer
and Company Secretary of MGM China Holdings Limited; and Wendy
Yu,
Executive Vice President of Human Resources of MGM.
In her opening remarks, Pansy
Ho noted that the
nation’s 15th Five-Year Plan reflects strong strategic resolve and, for the
first time, incorporates the goal of building China into a strong tourism
nation as a national strategic objective, providing clearer action-oriented
guidance for the development of Macau’s cultural and tourism sectors. She
highlighted that, in line with the Ethnic Unity and Progress Promotion Law passed
this year and the plan’s call to enhance the global influence of Chinese
civilization, Macau should fully leverage its unique strengths of being backed
by the motherland, connected to the world, and enriched by the convergence of
Chinese and Western cultures. With cultural identity at its core, she said, Macau
can foster more “Macau +
Mainland China” cultural exchange
initiatives and encourage young people to become active promoters of Chinese
culture. As integration between Hengqin and Macau continues to deepen, she
added that Macau should adopt a “Tourism +” approach to drive cross-sector integration across MICE, culture,
innovation and technology, while extending related industry chains into
Hengqin. She reaffirmed that MGM will continue to grow in step with the nation
and Macau, fulfill its corporate social responsibilities, and support the
city’s appropriate economic diversification.
Chui Sai Peng said that the
country remains confident in economic development and employment prospects and stressed
that Macau society should accurately grasp national development directions and
government priorities to build consensus on better integrating into and serving
the nation’s overall development. He noted that the 15th Five-Year Plan provides important guidance for Macau’s future, with areas such as
technological advancement, high-level opening-up, talent development, and
exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and Western civilizations all warranting
close attention. He further remarked that the SAR Government’s four
major projects are important vehicles
for aligning proactively with the 15th Five-Year Plan, and expressed hope that
all society will fully support the SAR’s governance policy agenda so as to
inject stronger momentum into Macau’s long-term development.
Ho Sut Heng shared that a clear policy direction
emerging from this year’s Two Sessions is a stronger emphasis on “investing in people”, placing greater importance on improving and expanding education,
nurturing skilled talent, promoting high-quality and full employment, improving
income distribution, and strengthening livelihood services such as elderly care
and childcare. She noted that this not only reflects the nation’s continued
commitment to enhancing people’s well-being, valuing talent development, and
advancing holistic human development, but also provides important reference
points for Macau in optimizing its talent development system, strengthening
support for youth development, and enhancing family-friendly services as well
as support for both children and the elderly.
Wong Kit Cheng said that both the
nation and Macau attach great importance to livelihood issues such as low birth
rates, maternal and child protection, and family-friendly policies. She said
continued efforts should be made to improve policies relating to childbirth,
childcare, leave arrangements, and healthcare in order to create more favorable
living and development conditions for young people. She commended MGM for
setting a leading example in supporting women and families, recognizing the
company as a family-friendly employer. Wong also called on Macau to actively
align with the national 15th Five-Year
Plan and the SAR’s “Third
Five-Year Plan” so as to build
consensus, pool wisdom and strength, and contribute more to the development of
both Macau and the nation.
To further extend the reach of the Two
Sessions spirit to the Macau community and younger generations, MGM specially
invited members of the General Association of Macau
Beijing Organization, as well as faculty members and students from multiple local higher
education institutions, including the University
of Macau, Macao Polytechnic University,
Macao University of Tourism, Macau University of Science and Technology, and City University of Macau, to attend the sharing session. The initiative
aims to deepen understanding across different sectors of society of the
nation’s development agenda and unite more young people who are committed to
Macau’s future.
