Since its opening, Silk Roads Beyond Borders, POLY MGM MUSEUM’s annual exhibition, has attracted a wide audience of local residents and visitors from around the world. Featuring more than 200 pieces of relics and artworks, the exhibition brings to life the remarkable story of cultural exchange and mutual learning that flourished along the Silk Roads across centuries. Counting down to last day of the exhibition on August 31, the Museum has launched Silk Road GO, a special digital card-collection game inspired by the exhibition, while adding sessions of its immersive extension program, Museum Encounter – The Tang Story during the final weeks of summer holiday. Designed for visitors of all ages and backgrounds, these interactive experiences offer new ways to engage with the diverse cultures, creativity, and vitality of civilizations along the Silk Roads. The Museum also officially announces its upcoming exhibition, Luminous Brilliance: The Artistry of Zibo Liuli, opening in October in collaboration with the National Museum of China. Continuing the cultural dialogue embodied by the Silk Roads, the exhibition underscores POLY MGM MUSEUM’s commitment to bringing world-class exhibitions to Macau while reinforcing the city’s role as a global platform for cultural exchange and collaboration.

Final Chance to Appreciate Canaletto and Marieschi’s Masterpieces in Macau

Built around the historical legacy of the Silk Roads across Eurasia, Silk Roads Beyond Borders unfolds through four thematic chapters featuring more than 200 historical artifacts and contemporary artworks. By placing ancient artifacts in dialogue with contemporary artistic expression, the exhibition invites visitors on a cross-cultural journey through time. One of the exhibition’s highlights is the presentation of two important 18th-century works by Venetian School masters Canaletto (Giovanni Antonio Canal) and Michele Marieschi, made possible through the support of the Consulate General of Italy in Hong Kong and Macau. On loan from Italy’s Fondazione Paolo e Carolina Zani, these oil-on-canvas works are being exhibited in Asia for the first time, giving visitors a rare opportunity to admire these celebrated Venetian masterpieces up close in Macau. Admission also includes complimentary access to the “Marco Polo VR Journey”, a ten-minute immersive experience that transports audiences along Marco Polo’s legendary route across Eurasia, recreating the vibrant commercial networks and cultural exchanges that once connected East and West.

Summer Exclusive: Collect Digital Treasures and Unlock Special Rewards

Running through August 31, the Museum’s summer-exclusive digital card collection game Silk Road GO transforms 30 iconic artifacts and artworks from Silk Roads Beyond Borders into exclusive digital collectible cards. Inspired by the popularity of collectible, the campaign turns the card-collecting experience into a journey of discovery through the history of SilkRoad civilizations. Since its launch, the initiative has attracted strong participation from young visitors and family audiences alike.

Combining online engagement with on-site exploration, participants can collect cards by completing mobile missions anytime and anywhere, while exclusive hidden cards can be unlocked by tapping designated NFC checkpoints throughout the museum. Those who complete the designated collections can redeem exclusive souvenirs and enter lucky draws to win limited-edition museum souvenirs and signature MGM gifts. Additional Sessions for an Immersive Journey into the Tang Dynasty

Throughout the summer holidays, the Museum has expanded the schedule of Museum Encounter – the Tang Story, with evening sessions held every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday at 7:00PM.

Led by the artifact guardian Little Dragon Girl, and the Sogdian merchant Kang Fuduo, participants embark on a journey through the galleries to uncover centuries-old stories behind the exhibition’s treasures. Along the way, visitors engage with costumed non-player characters (NPCs), including Tang court ladies, an Uyghur princess, as well as Dunhuang musicians. Guests can also enjoy performances of the Sogdian Whirl Dance, once popular in Chang’an (modern day Xi’an), the capital of the Tang Dynasty. Blending live performance, storytelling, and exhibition interpretation, this “living museum” experience offers a vivid introduction to the multicultural encounters and exchanges that characterized the ancient Silk Roads.

Coming this October: “Luminous Brilliance: The Artistry of Zibo Liuli”

Following the conclusion of Silk Roads Beyond Borders, POLY MGM MUSEUM will partner with the National Museum of China and the Zibo Ceramic and Glass Museum to present Luminous Brilliance: The Artistry of Zibo Liuli this October. Zibo, located in China’s Shandong Province, is the nation’s prominent center of liuli craftsmanship. Liuli, a term historically used to describe Chinese glass production, embodies a legacy of artistic innovation and cultural exchange between East and West.

Bringing together nearly 180 exceptional historic and contemporary works, the exhibition traces the 3,000-year evolution of Chinese liuli artistry. Highlights range from Warring States period Dragonfly-Eye Liuli Bead to a contemporary Liuli Phoenix Crown, showcasing the richness and continuity of the tradition across millennia. Enhanced by immersive multimedia installations, the exhibition reveals the luminous transparency and vibrant colors that define liuli craftsmanship, inviting visitors into a dazzling visual journey while celebrating both the profound heritage and contemporary transformation of this important cultural tradition.
