The 30-minute “Macao: Back to Common Roots Narrative Film” vividly narrates the history and story of Macau. With the help of the advanced technology of MGM Theater, the film is exquisitely displayed on the world’s largest permanent indoor ultra-HD LED screen. The audience can appreciate Macau’s transformation over the past centuries via a multi-sensory experience entwining art and culture with history education.
The film was organized by Macao Cultural Development Promotion Association and MGM, sponsored by Bank of China Macau Branch, supported by the Department of Publicity and Culture, and the Department of Education and Youth Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao Special Administrative Region, Cultural Affairs Bureau, Education and Youth Development Bureau, Macao Government Tourism Office and Macao Holy House of Mercy.
After the launch of the large-scale documentary “Back to Common Roots” at the 15th anniversary of the Establishment of Macau SAR, and “Back to Common Roots Orchestra Concert” in 2019, the production team remodeled the majestic 100-meter-long scroll painting into an innovative and digitized version - “Macao: Back to Common Roots Narrative Film”.
Writing Competition
To further encourage local youth to learn more about Macau’s history and foster a sense of belonging among the
next generation, MGM, in partnership with Macao Cultural Development Promotion Association and Pen of Macau, hosted
this themed Writing Competition. The entry should center around the writer’s love for Macau and their boundless
imaginations of the city’s future based on the content of the Film.
