Jointly established by Poly Culture Group Corporation Limited and MGM, the POLY MGM MUSEUM has been named to Fortune China’s 2026 Best Design list, standing as the only project from Macau to be recognized this year. The honor was presented at the Fortune China Best Design 2026 Awards Ceremony held in Chengdu on October 22.
Recognizing 50 outstanding projects, Fortune China’s 2026 Best Design list focuses on how design responds to real human needs while fostering connections between technology and humanistic values. The inclusion of the POLY MGM MUSEUM recognizes its innovative integration of spatial design, technology and cultural experiences, while underscoring its use of design as a bridge to explore new possibilities for cultural heritage and contemporary expression.
The POLY MGM MUSEUM seamlessly blends Eastern and Western cultures, tradition and innovation through a distinctive design language. The multimedia installation within the museum’s grand dome uses shifting light and shadow to evoke the passage of time, guiding visitors on a symbolic journey of cultural discovery. Within the exhibition halls, the museum’s iconic “dougong” columns are adorned with cloisonné enamel craftsmanship, an element of China’s intangible cultural heritage, embodying the harmonious fusion of traditional architectural ingenuity and contemporary aesthetics. The checkerboard stone flooring is inlaid with cultural motifs representing 12 countries along the Silk Road, while its carefully selected materials and textures echo the rich history of exchange and mutual learning among civilizations, subtly weaving a multicultural narrative into the fabric of space.
Moving beyond the conventions of traditional exhibition displays, the museum offers a distinctive visitor experience through flexible spatial design and digital innovation. Its modular exhibition layout can be flexibly reconfigured to accommodate the needs of different exhibitions, while advanced display technologies integrate physical artefacts with digital imagery and sound. Together, they create an immersive environment where the physical and digital realms converge, enabling visitors to engage more intuitively and interactively with historical artefacts and contemporary art.
Since opening in 2024, the POLY MGM MUSEUM has welcomed more than 1.6 million visitors from over 50 countries and regions worldwide. Through its innovative exhibition content and distinctive spatial design, the museum has garnered a number of design and industry accolades in China and abroad, standing as one of Macau’s leading cultural tourism landmarks and a prominent gateway for showcasing the richness of traditional Chinese cultural heritage.
