MGM’s Bartender Crowned Champion at Hennessy MyWay 2026 Hong Kong and Macau Championship

MGM is proud to celebrate the championship milestone of Glen Corales, bartender from Bar Patuá at MGM COTAI, being crowned the Hennessy MyWay 2026 Hong Kong & Macau Champion at the regional final held in August in Seoul, South Korea. As the sole finalist from Macau, Corales triumphed over a strong lineup of contenders to secure his place in the championship and eventually won his place at the Hennessy MyWay 2026 Global Final, scheduled to take place in France this November. His victory marks a remarkable achievement for both MGM and Macau, as he becomes the first bartender from Macau to advance to the global stage of this prestigious competition, underscoring Macau’s growing influence as the Creative City of Gastronomy and reinforcing its position as a world-class destination for culinary and beverage excellence.

Born and raised in the Philippines, Corales joined MGM in 2023 and has since become part of the core team at Bar Patuá. He has refined his craft within the unique vibe of the bar, where nostalgic Macanese heritage since the era of voyage expeditions meets contemporary sophistication. Inspired by the global cultural exchanges that have long shaped Macau, Bar Patuá offers guests immersive cocktail experiences that celebrate stories of travel and connection between East and West. The dynamic and multicultural setting has provided him with an ideal platform to develop his creativity and deepen his expertise in mixology.

This year’s Hennessy MyWay Hong Kong & Macau final challenged participants to interpret the theme of Past and Future, with Corales presenting Tea Ceremony 125, a reimagining of the classic French 125. Having spent a decade in Macau, Corales has been well immersed in the local and Chinese culture, in which he finds both new learnings and similarities to his roots. This blend of cultures led him to create his winning cocktail with a shared staple ingredient of both Chinese and Filipino foodways — rice grains. The unique concoction pays tribute to his favorite childhood drink — Kapeng Bigas — a traditional Filipino non-caffeinated rice coffee, made by roasting plain or brown rice grains then steeping into hot water, paired with Hennessy V.S.O.P. The syrup and garnish required for the recipe were also made from the toasted rice grains to give a full aroma. Taking inspiration from one of China’s esteemed intangible cultural heritage — the Long-Spout Copper Kettle Kung Fu Tea Dance — which he has discovered from MGM’s signature restaurant Five Foot Road, Corales vividly incorporated the techniques into the serving ritual and presentation of Tea Ceremony 125.

Earlier in the competition, Corales secured his Top 5 qualification among Hong Kong and Macau’s candidates with another creation TRACE, a sustainability-focused cocktail featuring Hennessy V.S.O.P, Phoenix Dancong tea, and repurposed citrus elements that transformed fruit peels into various components of the guest experience.

Before heading to France for the global final in November, Corales will showcase his craft through guest shifts across Asia, further sharing Macau’s vibrant cocktail culture with international audiences. To commemorate this accomplishment, Bar Patuá will introduce his award-winning creations for experience soon, please stay tuned.
