June 20 - MGM’S ‘ART IS PLAY’ BRINGS OUT PLAYFUL SIDE OF ART

[Wednesday, June 20] As a leader in developing cultural tourism in Macau, MGM always has an art and culture focus on its diversified entertainment offerings. MGM MACAU is proud to present its 24th art exhibition at MGM Art Space - ART IS PLAY, the most fun and colorful art exhibition in this summer, from June 27 to September 9.

ART IS PLAY invites guests of all ages to embark on a journey of awakening, self-discovery and social interaction through play. It features colorful art installations by five international artists, including Cindy Ng from Macau, Ayumi Adachi from Japan, tomtom from Hong Kong, Camille Walala from the United Kingdom, and Janice Wong from Singapore, who together inspire the fun and playful side of every visitor.

Mindscape by Cindy Ng

Inspired by her memories of childhood in Macau, local artist Cindy Ng highlights the unique essence of ink in Mindscape. As you brush through layers of curtains, lose yourself in the light and shadows of this abstract dreamscape.

Setsuna = 0.013 second by Ayumi Adachi

It only takes one Setsuna that equals to 0.013 seconds, for Ayumi Adachi’s work to awaken consciousness. The calming sounds and shadows of this beautiful bubble installation lead you into a meditative state.

Orangelicious by tomtom

Enter the yellow and orange wonderland of tomtom’s imagination, where vibrant balloons in every size have been carefully selected to inspire joy and happiness. This large-scale installation organically flows, enveloping you in sunshine with every step.

Walala x Play by Camille Walala

This “temple to wonder” from well-known UK-based artist Camille Walala invites you to lose yourself in a maze of colors and patterns, zigzags and hallways, mirrors and challenges as you solve the puzzle and unleash your inner child.

Sugar Glow Garden by Janice Wong

Edible art of MGM COTAI’s celebrity chef Janice Wong redefines sweets and invites you into a world of imagination. Each of the 20,000 sugar flowers has been hand painted with glowing UV paint to inspire you to see, taste, and feel differently.

An Inspiring, Fun-Filled Workshop with Local University Students

Local elements are added to ART IS PLAY as a way of nurturing local artists and supporting the growth of Macau creative community. A special workshop was conducted by Janice Wong who teamed up with approximately 20 students and professors from the Visual Art, Design as well as Music bachelor’s degree programs of the Macao Polytechnic Institute to collaborate on her edible art installation, giving the students an opportunity to take part in a sizable art exhibition. During the workshop, Janice Wong also shared her stories and philosophy about her edible artwork as well as her experiences which inspired the students to further explore their creative capabilities.
