[Friday, October 18] The city’s much anticipated event Oktoberfest Macau at MGM 2019 has officially kick-started today at MGM COTAI! The 11-day Bavarian party welcomes guests of all to enjoy an array of traditional German brews and gourmets under the gigantic beer tent, and to singsong “Nei Hou, Macau!” with the popular Högl Fun Band to fill this convivial bierfest with local festivities.
This year’s event continues to partner with the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Hong Kong and the German Macau Business Association, and is supported by the Macao Government Tourism Office. As one of the staple annual events in Macau, the Oktoberfest this year is proud to celebrate of the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macau SAR with its one-of-a-kind gastronomic and entertainment offerings.
The event was officially kicked off with a beer keg tapping ceremony by Dr. Alexis Tam, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR. Other officiating guests were Mr. Wang Xindong, Secretary General of Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR; Mr. Dieter Lamlé, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Hong Kong; Ms. Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Director of Macao Government Tourism Office; Mr. Paulo Chan, Director of Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau; Mr. Tony Un, Chairman of German Macau Business Association; Mr. Grant Bowie, Chief Executive Officer & Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited; and Mr. Kenneth Feng, President, Chief Strategic Officer & Director of MGM China Holdings Limited.
Mr. Grant Bowie expressed his appreciation towards the government departments, supporting units and guests for their overwhelming support to the Oktoberfest Macau at MGM in his welcome speech. He also said, “Macau has many great traditions and events, and we are very proud that Oktoberfest at MGM has become one of the most anticipated events for our local community as well as tourists. In the future, MGM is going to offer more exciting and diverse activities to enrich Macau’s tourism offerings, with the aim of strengthening Macau’s position as the World Center of Tourism and Leisure.”
“Nei Hou, Macau!” Reigns the Revelry
For 11 consecutive years, Oktoberfest Macau at MGM has become one of the signature party events everyone in town raves about. Other than the must-have authentic German food and beverage, entertainment and decorations, this year MGM incorporates hints of Macanese elements to freshen up the party. The crowd’s favorite Högl Fun Band, also returns from Munich to stimulate the party with their dynamic live music performances. Their original hit, “Nei Hou, Macau!” which fuses catchy Cantonese phrases with bold Bavarian melody, is a surefire to rocket up the party vibe to a whole new level.
To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Macau SAR, all Macau ID holders will be eligible to enjoy a MOP20 discount on each entry ticket and a 20% discount on Oktoberfest merchandises. Additionally, MGM is again bringing back the Family Day Oktoberfest in the afternoon of October 27, welcoming all guests to enjoy a blissful Bavarian entertainment brunch with special offers with their families and friends.
