The POLY MGM MUSEUM today officially opened “Luminous Brilliance: The Artistry of Zibo Liuli”, a major exhibition jointly presented with the National Museum of China and the Zibo Ceramics and Glass Museum. The opening ceremony was held at MGM MACAU’s multi-purpose venue, the Fantasy Box.

Officiating guests included Ho Hau Wah, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference; Yang Weiqun, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Counsellor Ma Nai Fang, Director of Policy Research Department of Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in Macao Special Administrative Region; Zu Bin, Chairman of China Poly Group Corporation Limited; Kong Vireak, Secretary-General of the Alliance for Cultural Heritage in Asia and Under-Secretary of State of the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts of Cambodia; Chen Li, Deputy Director, National Museum of China; Leong Wai Man, President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government;  Pansy Ho, Chairperson and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited; Guo Qing, Vice Mayor of Zibo Municipal People’s Government; Guo Wenpeng, General Manager of Poly Culture Group Corporation Limited, and Kenneth Feng, CEO and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited. Together with more than 500 distinguished guests from central government offices in Macau, the Macao SAR Government, mainland China’s cultural institutions, Macau’s education, tourism and business sectors, as well as guests from the Global Tourism Economy Forum and the Alliance for Cultural Heritage in Asia, they gathered to witness the opening of the exhibition.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chen Li remarked, “Zibo liuli embodies the wisdom and innovative spirit of generations of artisans and carries a rich cultural legacy. Today, we bring this distinctive exhibition to Macau, where historic and contemporary liuli masterpieces are presented in three chapters, Forging a Millennium Legacy, Eternal Iridescence and Exquisite Objects of Timeless Elegance. Together, they trace the development of Chinese liuli art and highlight its distinctive craftsmanship, fully demonstrating the enduring heritage and contemporary transformation of traditional Chinese glassmaking. We sincerely hope visitors will step into the dazzling world of Zibo liuli and experience the unique charm of Chinese liuli art.”

Zu Bin added, “Poly and MGM joined forces to establish the POLY MGM MUSEUM, drawing on the enduring values of Silk Road civilization — peace and cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, mutual learning and exchange, and mutual benefit and shared success — to make profound historical and cultural heritage tangible, accessible and engaging. This exhibition is not only another significant achievement in the deepening strategic partnership between Poly and MGM, but also a vivid example of the museum’s efforts to promote the creative transformation and innovative development of intangible cultural heritage. Looking ahead, the museum will continue to present world-class exhibitions that reflect cultural confidence, bringing the finest traditions of Chinese culture into modern life, into public view and onto the global stage.”

Pansy Ho stated, “Twenty years ago, when MGM was first established, we identified culture and the arts as a core strategic pillar because we firmly believe that culture is the soul of tourism and the strongest foundation for Macau’s diversified economic development. Through concrete actions, we have continued to explore Macau’s unique pathway for integrating culture and tourism. The POLY MGM MUSEUM provides a platform where diverse cultures along the Silk Road can meet, engage and learn from one another in Macau, a city where East and West converge. MGM will continue to serve as both a ‘connector’ and a ‘partner’ in cultural exchange. We look forward to working with more collaborators to write a new chapter in the high-quality development of cultural tourism and contribute to the preservation and promotion of Chinese culture.”

To commemorate the exhibition and further strengthen cultural exchange between Mainland China and Macau, a special presentation ceremony was held during the opening. On behalf of the city of Zibo, Guo Qing and Song Aixiang, Director-General, Zibo Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, presented the lampworked liuli artwork Lotus Blossoms in Prosperity, Good Fortune Upon Macau to the POLY MGM MUSEUM, which was jointly received by Zu Bin and Pansy Ho.

Inspired by Macau’s UNESCO-listed Ruins of St. Paul’s, the work incorporates lotus blossoms, lotus leaves and koi motifs, bringing together Zibo’s renowned liuli craftsmanship and Macau’s distinctive cultural identity. It symbolizes the cultural ties between Shandong and Macau and the shared appreciation of each other’s cultural heritage and beauty. Guo Qing noted that Zibo is the birthplace of Qi culture and the hometown of Chinese liuli, where generations of artisans have used flame as their brush and molten glass as their ink, breathing life and vitality into the craft. He expressed the hope that this exhibition would serve as a bridge, helping audiences from China and around the world gain a deeper understanding of Zibo and fall in love with liuli.

Millennia-Old Craftsmanship Reimagined for a New Era

Continuing the POLY MGM MUSEUM’s Silk Road-centered curatorial narrative, “Luminous Brilliance: The Artistry of Zibo Liuli” brings the centuries-old, nationally recognized intangible cultural heritage craft of Zibo liuli to Macau. Through rare artifacts, contemporary artworks and innovative technology, the exhibition presents the development of Chinese liuli more than 3,000 years, showcasing the beauty of the craft while highlighting how traditional intangible cultural heritage continues to evolve through contemporary interpretation and innovation. Bringing together nearly 180 historical and contemporary liuli masterpieces (sets), the exhibition traces a journey across time. Highlights range from the Warring States-period Dragonfly-Eye Liuli Bead and the Qing imperial masterpiece White-Ground Overlay Ruby-Red Glass Vase with Lotus Scrolls to contemporary reinterpretations such as the Liuli Phoenix Crown. Together, they reveal the artistic and cultural achievements of different eras and trace the evolution of liuli craftsmanship.

Technology, Art and Immersive Experiences

The exhibition combines multimedia storytelling with large-scale LED visuals and Poly Culture’s patented OLED interactive display technology to vividly present the historical stories and craftsmanship behind the exhibits. Interactive experiences, including a virtual try-on of the Liuli Phoenix Crown, allow visitors to experience the contemporary appeal of traditional craftsmanship.

Specially commissioned multimedia works, A Millennium of Glowing History and Illuminated Dialogues: Windows Beyond Borders, complement the exhibition through a dialogue between moving images and physical artifacts.

At the heart of the exhibition, the Twelve Flower Deities series serves as the central design theme of the gallery. Incorporating Lingnan architectural elements, a traditional southern Chinese style, the installation creates a dreamlike environment of light and shadow, guiding visitors into a luminous journey where Eastern and Western aesthetics converge through exchange and mutual learning.

Art of Living: Extending Diverse Cultural Experiences

During the exhibition period, the Grande Praça outside of POLY MGM MUSEUM, the resort’s signature central atrium, transforms into a radiant liuli garden of light and glass, extending the exhibition atmosphere into public spaces.

The limited-time Museum Store features exclusive cultural-creative merchandise curated by the museum, alongside exquisite liuli artworks and craft pieces from Zibo, encouraging visitors to bring the aesthetics of liuli from the museum into everyday life. A dedicated “Luminous Moments” photo zone also invites visitors to capture memorable moments inspired by the exhibition.

The POLY MGM MUSEUM has also launched its popular mobile interactive game and is once again presenting its immersive museum-themed night tour program, further enriching both online and offline cultural tourism experiences. Additional details will be announced in due course.
