From now until the end of August, MGM proudly brings the highly popular Eastern trendy art IP, HAHALULU, to Macau for the very first time. In partnership with One Central Macau, MGM presents the “HAHALULU x MGM Trend Art Exhibition”, offering guests a relaxing, warm, and surprising artistic encounter. Spanning five months, this trend art exhibition uses art as a medium to connect hospitality, dining, and social interaction, bringing cultural appreciation closer to everyday life and creating an integrated “Culture + Tourism + Commerce” experience.
Throughout the exhibition, HAHALULU’s distinctive
and endearing presence will animate the public spaces of MGM MACAU, extending
to other key areas and One Central Macau in May, adding more moments for guests
to pause, appreciate, interact, and capture shareable memories.
HAHALULU, an Eastern trendy art IP beloved by
younger generations, was created by internationally renowned creator Dennis
Chan, the Founder of Qeelin, who is often called the “Father of the Gourd”.
With decades of deep engagement in traditional Eastern culture, Dennis draws
inspiration from the gourd, a classic symbol of good fortune in Chinese
tradition, blending it with a contemporary aesthetic to create a highly
recognizable and innovative cultural icon.
Debuting in April: Artful Photo Spots
The current phase of the exhibition is centered at
the Grand Praça of MGM MACAU, where a dedicated “gourd-shaped” zone has been
created for HAHALULU. Stepping into this art space filled with joy and fortune,
visitors are greeted by a 5.4-meter-tall giant pink plush HAHALULU
installation, embodying the auspicious meaning of “where blessings begin[SC1] ”. Surrounding this centerpiece are smaller HAHALULU
figures in a variety of playful poses and vibrant colors. Guests can take
photos with the different HAHALULU installations and, as evening falls, enjoy a
magical floating light show, unlocking a multi-dimensional immersive experience
and discovering the unique charm born from the fusion of Eastern culture and
contemporary trend art.
Also, on view at the Grand Praça is Dennis’s
acclaimed “Masters Tribute Series”. In this series, the distinctly Eastern
HAHALULU playfully steps into iconic Western masterpieces by artists such as
Van Gogh, da Vinci, and Vermeer, presenting a delightful cross-cultural
dialogue that invites viewers to explore the possibilities of art through a
lens of familiarity and surprise.
From Visual to Culinary: Themed Dining Experience
During the special exhibition period, MGM extends
the artistic experience to the dining table with a “surprise on the palate”.
The Pastry Bar at MGM MACAU is offering a selection of HAHALULU-themed desserts
and beverages. Inspired by the character’s vibrant image, the treats feature a
range of flavors, including fruity, chocolate, and matcha. Highlights include
the HAHALULU Starry Delight and HAHALULU Blossom Delight, perfect
for a light indulgence or for adding a touch of art to your photos. The
adorable HAHALULU Ice Cream promises to delight both the eyes and the
taste buds.
Experience the Artistic Surprise: More to Come
The public is cordially invited to experience trend
art, capture memorable photos, and enjoy the exclusive themed cuisine from
April 1 to August 31. Stay tuned for more themed experiences and surprises
coming to MGM and One Central Macau in May, as HAHALULU continues to unfold its
vibrant story in Macau.

The acclaimed Eastern art and trend IP,
HAHALULU, was created by internationally renowned creator Dennis Chan, founder of
Qeelin. With decades of deep engagement with traditional Eastern culture, Chan
possesses a profound understanding of the rich heritage of Chinese culture as
well as the demands of contemporary aesthetics. Drawing inspiration from the
gourd—a classic symbol of good fortune in Chinese tradition—he has crafted this
highly distinctive and innovative cultural IP. In traditional culture, the
gourd embodies the auspicious meanings of “blessings, protection, life, and
joy.” It is a universally recognized symbol of good fortune, enjoying
widespread popularity and cultural resonance. Chan broke away from the static,
conventional depiction of the gourd, endowing it with lively eyes and a vibrant
expression. This transformation turns HAHALULU into an “innocent child”
awakened from a millennia-old cultural lineage, conveying a core message of
pure joy and healing. By preserving the essence of Eastern culture while
integrating contemporary trends, HAHALULU has rapidly become a phenomenal
Eastern art toy IP. With its unique cultural core and adorable appearance,
HAHALULU has captured countless hearts. It has previously toured major mainland
Chinese cities, including Beijing, Xiamen, Hefei, Dunhuang, Guangzhou and
Shenzhen, sparking a nationwide craze and going viral on social media. HAHALULU stands as a
classic example of how traditional Chinese culture can be revitalized for a
younger generation and shared on an international stage.
